mm, caffeine. lovely stuff. the only problem being that it woke me up but didn't make physics interesting enough to concentrate on. bah. hopefully i'll understand stuff. hopefully he'll have enough calculators that it won't matter that mine has dead batteries. ::shrug::
once i wake up: quiz, lunch, nap, pack, road trip, party. :)
shadowsong: (angel in fire)
today is pissing me off. it's actually been pretty good, just.... rrgh.

physics quiz this morning. it was easy, mostly. except for one question. 'all your answers should end up being whole numbers,' he says. i spent 15 minutes on this problem, i did it 3 different ways, and i got the same non integer as a result.
here's the question, and we're supposed to be able to do it without calculus: you throw a rock horizontally at 20 m/s, from a starting point of 25m above the ground. what is its velocity just before it hits the ground? assume that g = 10 m/s² and ignore the effects of air resistance.
i said that v = [where's the damn square root sign?](2gh) + 20 m/s
what am i missing?

and then i did nothing for a while. and then i tried to do laundry and discovered i was 25 cents short. so i went to put more money on my card. i had to hunt someone down to let me into the cafeteria, cause of course that's the best place to put the laundry card machine, and then i had to hunt someone down who could tell me what bills the damn thing accepted. and then i had to go back to my room, get a 20, get change for it, and hunt down someone else to let me into the cafeteria. cuz, y'know, a load of laundry is 75 cents, so why would you want the machine to take ones? and erin, meanwhile, was bitching at me for having my laundry not running and yet taking up a machine.

and just now, i spend 20 minutes trying to find extended ascii codes that work with microsoft. apparently on non-ms systems, the square root would be alt 251. witness: alt-251 = _. this is not a square root. when i tried insert symbol in word and pasting it in here, i got an uppercase u-umlaut, or a v, depending on whether i found it in normal text or symbol. grrr.....

on the plus side, nighthawk's gonna give me a backrub and make me dinner tonight. :) go me. my back hates me. my muscles don't really seem knotted, just.... rocklike.

::insert ongoing frustration here::
