Dec. 22nd, 2001 08:10 pmso yeah, that sucked. i did curbside check-in, so i only had one line (security) to wait in. i emptied my pockets on the way to the security line... and pulled out my pocketknife. oops. i had to run back to my luggage and stick the knife in my suitcase. luckily he hadn't taken them inside yet. then back to security to stand in line.
i realized i should have worn my sneakers... my docs have steel toes. i had to take them off while they made sure that it really was a steel toe cap and not a knife, and that it was my shoes that had metal and not my feet. and then they decided my backpack needed a random search, and no one knows how to get the zipper on my backpack to actually close. i want a new backpack for christmas.
checked in at the gate, then checked stores for batteries and got back just in time to board. the flight was uneventful except for the petite woman with gorgeous red hair and velvet pants whom i'd seen in the security line. i slept the whole time.
then i got to phoenix. hour and a half layover... except that the sign says we're delayed and going to leave at 4.50 instead of 4.05. then it gets to be 4.45ish and we're going to leave at 5.30. when 5.30 rolls around, they tell us that the plane is finally here (it took off late) but it will be delayed for an unspecified time due to unspecified maintenance. they'll tell us something at 7pm.
meanwhile, they give us meal vouchers for $8.50. i want to get a taco and a cinnabon... but i don't get change. :P so i just get a taco, and some chips. after all, i have chocolate in my backpack.
at 6.50 the plane is ready - there was a problem with the landing gear. so we board, and there's a family with small children directly behind me. i have strengthened my resolve never to have children.
they piped in music videos of schmaltzy christmas music to the airplane video screens. ugh. i hate having to listen to that stuff. but wait! i know that song! - they played a trans-siberian orchestra song. :) neato. and then back to the muzak. also, airplane tv is ads. no content whatsoever. they played home alone for the movie.
you can tell a lot about a person just by knowing that they've bought stuff from skymall.
i got to bwi at 1.45ish. didn't get my luggage for another half hour. :P didn't get home till after 4am, then my parents wanted me to get up at 11 so we could go shopping. i went to bed at 4. 11est =8am pst. ugh. i had to unpack most of my suitcase before i could figure out where i put all my underwear.
but i did go shopping. strangely, the hordes of people didn't bother me much. got stuff for my brother and ended up spending $40 on him. and one of the things was nonrefundable, and my mother'd bought the same thing elsewhere for half the price. oh, well. and i got something for chris :) and dad got something for joel that i'm chipping in on. tried to find a sweater for mom, but nothing fit her specifications - everything was acrylic or wool or not green.
i've got one other thing for chris that i need to find, and i haven't thought about gifts for anyone else. need to buy rebecca a gift but gods only know what. dad wanted a 'weird' cd, and speficied 'like yanni'. bah. i got him a moxy fruvous cd. :)
my mother tries to overorganize everything. that's why things seem so complicated when i'm at home.
making spiced cider now. go me. :)
