May. 15th, 2002 09:46 amwell, it's been eventful. i finished my cty app, with a very nice cover letter and everything, sent it off at the post office, and missed a stop sign and got tboned on the way back. so much for the truck. it was my fault (see above re: stop sign) but the guy who hit me had neither insurance nor a drivers license. technically i didn't either, but since mine existed (and also probably because i was a cute girl and he was hispanic) they didn't give me any shit for not having it on me. also probably because i was very upset. so he hit me, the driver's side door hit my elbow and ankle, and i hit a lamp post. one of the new ones that they'd been putting in last time i was here. when i stopped, i was about an inch away from a really expensive tractor that was right next to the ex-lamp post. *so* glad i didn't hit that too. but yeah, engine's undamaged, axle is probably undamaged, but the mechanic says that the only part of the hood they hit contained all the electronic stuff, so it's pretty much fucked. also, since i didn't pay for the truck, no matter how much repairs will be, it's more than i invested in the thing. in light of that, i didn't get collision coverage with my insurance. unfortunately that means they won't pay me anything for having totaled it. when nana comes back home in july, though, she's going to put an ad in the paper for me advertizing it for parts. i need to knock some dents out of the canopy (you didn't think the light pole would fall *away* from me, did you?) and then it'll be worth a decent price, and like i said the engine is undamaged. so i might get something out of it. oh, and also the guy who towed it was incompetent and didn't do any paperwork, so even though you can't do an aaa tow from an accident, they didn't charge me when i went to pick it up.
in other news, yesterday nana funded an outlet mall trip. i have nice bras! and socks! i'm so excited, especially because all of my current bras are from walmart. i also got some vinyl vacuum seal bags to pack bulky clothing in, and a pair of cargos with zip off legs, and a pair of microfiber pants. so comfy. :) new clothes! ::dances::
now i'm in seattle. nana has a doctor's appointment, so i walked the 7 blocks to aurafice where i now have sweet, blessed internet. nana tried to convince me to go to pike place (which i'd mentioned wanting to do) instead of walking to aurafice - apparently taking the bus to some place i've never been before is safer than walking to somewhere i *have* been before. she was also very distressed that aurafice was a public place that let anyone in. um... pike place is *outside*. thus that much *more* public and letting-in-of-everyone. going back to have lunch at 11.30, then probably coming back here, or maybe i'll go to pike place after all, depending on how much time i have.
one of the really sucky things about my lack-of-truck is that now i have no way to get to may crown, at which i was supposed to be marshalling and waterbearing.
pyran, are you planning on going? feel like giving me a ride? i'll probably post in the sca community, but i'd prefer to get a ride from someone i'm at least acquainted with, so i don't have to lie through my teeth to nana about whoever picks me up being a friend of mine.
also, i wanted to go to portland and pick up fencing gear, which i'm not sure i'll be able to do. maybe i could convince david to show up at may crown, if the triplette box has arrived by then. hm...
anyway, aurafice is comfy, seattle is a little on the cold side, my elbow and ankle are bruised (and my knee and forearm, but that's from moving out of the dorm), and my hair is very long.
there might be something to that "adrenaline" business... when i got my (stuffed to the gills, very heavy) fencing bag out of the truck after the crash, it was very easy to lift.
the illustrations in owlflight (mercedes lackey, pics by larry dixon) are *awful*. they hurt to look at. on the other hand, the pictures in "the wild wood" (charles de lint / brian froud) are very nice. story is eh, though. :)
i have a large pile of stuff to leave at nana's. my goal is to not have to ship anything home, but that's probably unrealistic.
keith is apparently starting the summer evilness without tuition for next year at lc. feh. anyone want to come to iowa for a parental "convincing" session?
