Jun. 23rd, 2003 03:55 amfinally downloaded and cracked alto mp3. tomorrow i plan to rip my cd collection, pick up a spool of blank cds, and make myself some mp3 cds to take to scotland. cause you know, 2 cds is much more packable than 100. also i need to do laundry. at 2.30 joel gets on an airplane to go to europe, so i'll be driving to the airport and back for most of the afternoon. i plan to pretend barnes&noble is a library when i get back, and sit down for a few hours to read the new harry potter book.
update: okay, so maybe it's more like 12 mp3 cds, not two. but still... i don't have to take everything! ...i just have to, you know, be decisive enough to figure out what to leave behind. which is the whole reason i'd end up taking 116 cds in the first place. i suck at the whole "making choices" thing.
whee! accomplishing things! not that any of these are particularly important things, but they're all good to do.
made myself some strawberry-dipping fondue. last time i tried the chocolate wouldn't stick to anything, but i put butter and milk in this time and it worked like a charm.
currently listening to the fellowship of the rings soundtrack. sooooo pretty. i just ripped it, all but the last track which keeps giving me errors. i'll have to pull it off of kazaa or something. i wonder if there's a way for stark to put my music folder online? or at least part of it... that thing's huge. i should at least get a list of what all's in it so i know what i want to look for.
today i sang at church, refrained from teasing shauna too much about wearing a colored skirt (you looked quite nice, no matter what you may think), went home and took a nap instead of going to lunch with people. it was one of those "every minute i stay here is a minute i'm not asleep in my cozy bed" days. woke up at 8.30 for church, went back to sleep at 11.30 or so, woke up at 1 (sort of) to take joel to youth group, went back to sleep till 5. i felt rested for the rest of the day. :) note how i'm not asleep right now. :P
last night was marrakesh, which was SO COOL. $33 for a set menu 7 course meal. the building is windowless, on the end of the block. the front of the building is painted orange, with a huge wooden orange door. you bang the doorknocker and someone inside unlocks the small set-in door to let you in. there are low circular tables surrounded by cushioned benches, and the food is brought in on platters by waiters wearing traditional moroccan outfits. there's no silverware, it's all finger stuff. you wouldn't think that a whole chicken could be finger food, but it worked out quite nicely. although a lot of dishes tasted so good that you burned your fingertips trying to eat it. also there was belly dancing, so the lights dimmed just before we got the course that was some sort of phyllo pastry thing filled with meat and egg and something sweet, with powdered sugar on top. the powdered sugar was very messy and unexpected, in the dark.
so i got to see a lot of people i hadn't seen since high school, including ali and ederlyn and jenny and jen and carl and doug. ederlyn is still shorter than me, and doug is still hulking. :)
i'm thinking joann's is probably not going to hire me, seeing as how they still haven't said anything and i have less than a month in which i can work. bah. :P need to update my resume with the temp agency.
oh! i also need to talk to david and arma to work out a schedule for the fencing seminar. should have done that before school ended, as soon as i got the funding. :P they're probably not going to be available in september at this point, so it might be a start-of-spring-semester thing. budgets are yearly, not semesterly, right? david, what do you know about reserving space in the gym and putting people up in school guest rooms?
