holy crap pirates of the caribbean is such a good movie. i mean, not a high quality classic movie, but ...yummy. i agree with whoever the hell it was who said this movie could end up being the princess bride for the generation behind me. i didn't think johnny depp was my type, and really in the still shots, the eye makeup doesn't do much for me... but once he had a sword in his hand, DAMN. after i'd seen that, he looked different for the rest of the movie. and the way he moves was so perfect. i disagree with shauna on the mincing - the sort of flailing thing he does with his arms (i remember it when he's going down stairs) is the sort of fake-balancing thing i do when i'm feeling particularly giddy. SO FUNNY. not having seen many of his other films (wasn't too impressed with sleepy hollow, and i can't remember a thing from edward scissorhands), i hadn't realized he was such a good actor. he pulled off the acting equivalent of when swordfighting becomes a dance. exactly the way it's supposed to be done, and so exciting to watch.
the bit where he's caressing the remarkably phallic handles on the ship's wheel at the end doesn't do much for the case of people claiming he's not effeminate.
orlando bloom is sadly not very convincing as a blacksmith. too much of the elvish waif still in him, i think. and the poor guy definitely looks better as an elf than as a moderately scruffy guy. it might be better if he was very scruffy, or he may be stuck with doing the immaculately cleanshaven look forever.
zombie monkey! hee. and the fight on the teetering cart was very cool - i was sure i could hear troy thinking about how best to convince the marshals to let him try it.
oh, and the end was incredibly cheesy and rather dumb, but that's not the point! the rest of it kicked ass. :) i'm sure i'll be able to see it another 3 times at least, before i have to take a break until it comes out on video.

there was something i was going to write about yesterday but i can't remember what it is.
i leave for seattle tomorrow around 2 or 3, and i promised i would be all packed by morning. stupid lack of motivation. i have the russian dance that vanessa mae does stuck in my head, but i think i don't have the whole song on my computer cause it seems way short. it's a good think you can't hear anything past the kitchen, cause it's been repeated several times already. taking a break and listening to wars of the last wolves for a bit, though.

saw leslie today for the first time in 8 years or so. we were best friends in elementary and middle school, until she kinda stopped talking to me halfway through seventh grade. i think at least part of it was that people were accusing us of being lesbians - which was worse for her because of the inherent nickname possibilities. but it was good to see her again. i don't know if it was different, because i don't remember what we used to talk about, though.

back to packing.
