Mike: derg... DERG
http://thinkprogress.org/2006/10/03/lott-on-iraq/
Joanna: the trent lott thing reminds me of colbert's "i don't see race" thing
although he might also be saying that black people aren't american
Mike: do you like how he stated dif christian denoms?
Joanna: i can understand that he listed christian denominations because he was comparing it to sects of islam fighting, but still.
it is quite possible that he thinks jews, muslims, atheists and etc. are also not actually american
Mike: it's a strange statement
if not an honest one
Mike: and that's the problem... I don't think he thinks it's a racist statement
it's all about pattern recognition
he sees an american pattern which is probably all white
Joanna: it's not an actively racist statement - "blacks and muslims aren't american" - it's a passive one where he just forgets about them.
Mike: he probably honestly believes minorities combined are a minority to WASP/Baptist whties
right
Mike: it's like the 'things would be better off if you were president'
if you were to say 'So you want to lynch people?' he'd say no
but if it just so happened that there were no blacks in power, I don't think he'd find that odd
I think that's it actually.... 'I wouldn't find it strange'
That there's never been a Native on the Dept of the Interior or Native Affairs? That's always confused me
hey look... it's a culture that really likes and liked our natural habitat.. HMmmm... maybe they'd have a cultural insight.
Joanna: the lack of natives on the BIA has always made sense to me, because the point is to control them, not to govern them.
not that i agree that should be the point of the BIA, but given that goal, the whiteness of the dept makes perfect sense.
Mike: I love you
Joanna: i love you, but it has nothing to do with colonialization. :)
Mike: you just love me coz I'm a white land owner
