shadowsong: (angel in fire)
I ignored the slight stinging in my right eye when I put in my contacts this morning. That, plus a sunny morning, plus a turn onto the I405 on-ramp directly into the rising sun, resulted in me trying to enter the highway with my eyes mostly closed and streaming tears.

Judicious use of sunshade, sunglasses, and squinting meant that I could at least open my eyes once my lane merged, but I spent at least half the time trying and failing to get my eyes to focus together. Driving with no depth perception is not something I'd like to try again any time soon.

So I've been having issues with my eye for a while now - an inflamed vein (well, a red line, at least) leading from the inside corner of my eye to the iris, with redness radiating out from the iris towards the opposite corner as well. This comes with a burning sensation, frequent tearing, and (usually) moderate photophobia.

No swollen eyelid (as in blepharitis), no eye gunk (as in conjunctivitis), no changes in my vision (as in glaucoma) other than occasional inability to focus in bright light. (That's "lack of focus" as in double vision, not blurred vision, btw.) This has occurred through 3 different pairs of contacts, at different points in the contact's 1-month lifespan.

Symptoms fade after 3-5 days of wearing glasses. An antihistamine eyedrop prescribed by my doctor doesn't noticeably change the recovery time, and stings like a bitch.

So, The Internet, what the hell is wrong with my eye?

Edited to add the answer: Corneal infiltrates related to contact lens use, treated by a steroidal antibiotic drop.

The doctor put in those yellow contrast drops. Then she shone a light in my eye to take a look, and I promptly cried the drops out. Yay photophobia!

I guess the problem was obvious to her... I probably should have made an appointment back in February when it first started giving me trouble.
