vnv concert was fun.
i woke up around 4 today having gone to sleep around 3am. between 10 and 4 i got about 12 phone calls, with at least three of them being the lady who just called, calling back so she could leave a message on the voice mail. gah.
got up, took a shower, made soup for amelia and myself, since amelia'd just had several fillings put in and couldn't chew. then we headed downtown for the concert.

we found a smart park and got her some shoes, since all she had were sandals. we went to a good shoe store first and then went to payless. she got a pair of ankleboots at payless and we went back to the first store, because they had some kneehigh boots that i liked. turns out she really likes them to. so she bought a pair and will return the others. and i discovered that my calves are too big. they seem pretty normal to me, but every pair of boots i've tried on is too tight around the calf, which makes it all funny and wrinkly just above the ankle. so i didn't get boots. i did find a nice pair of dress shoes though, which is good, because i've needed some for a while. the heel seems to pull off of the sole slightly on the pair i have now, and i'm afraid they're just going to snap off some time.

then we tried to park closer to the venue, found directions to a smart park that ended up being the same one as we'd been in before. :P we got to the venue at 7.45, 15 minutes before the show was supposed to start. doors were still closed. they didn't open until about 8.45... apparently one of the bands, icon of coil, set up their stuff on the stage leaving no room for the other opening band, omnibox. i can only assume that omnibox got pissed off and left, because they didn't play. they confiscated my pocketknife at the door. oops.

while we were waiting outside, we talked with some of the people sitting around. dan was the cute one whose email i got, josh was his brother, and there was a dude in a tophat, a nondescript black shirt, leather jacket, patent leather kneehigh docs, and purple swirly tightish pants. and his girlfriend. they were from seattle, the first two were from olympia. we ended up next to dan and josh once we got inside. they were lots of fun to talk with.

icon of coil was eh. the singer had a nice jawline, but that was about all they had going for them.
vnv was much better. they had video screens set up and most of their songs had visuals to go along. one of them, 'carbon' i think it's called, had stats on greenhouse gases, and amelia got snarky about how wrong it was. apparently, the levels of greenhouse gases are lower now than they were in the last ice age. among other things. fossil fuels are bad and all, but not for that reason.

they played a bunch of good songs and a bunch i don't know very well. saviour, further, darkangel, honour, beloved, standing, solitary... those are the only ones i remember the names of. but it was good.
it was also very gothy. amelia felt out of place. we saw olin there - he does a program on klc radio that plays electronica and stuff, including vnv. he was very surprised to see us there.

when we left, we stopped to talk to dan and josh again. (dan, before the show, had been alternating chainsmoking and chain-altoiding, and the altoids continued through the concert. when we were talking after the show, he asked if we wanted altoid crumbs.) i was hoping to get dan's email, and kind of stood around not asking for it, until josh said, 'you should exchange emails or something.' thank you, that was just what i needed. so i have his email, and amelia and i went home and made more soup. mm, tomato. i only like plain, campbells tomato soup. tomato soup with stuff in is no good. but yeah. and now i'm going to fall over.
