Aug. 1st, 2002 12:49 amwent over to annejke and was notified that i was doing my pleating the hard way: this is what they make half inch pleater tape for. so that's all sewn on, and i'll be gathering it the next time i watch a movie. or maybe tomorrow while i'm not fencing. i need to figure out what the heck i'm supposed to do with the pockets (i'm not really sure how they attach and all) and sew them on, handsew all the cartridge pleats on (sewing the legs into a tube before i sew both ends, don't let me forget), and sew on the fly. then i have to pad my old fencing shirt and sew the loop tape on my yelek. i'm thinking of just getting loop tape for the other yelek too, instead of bothering with buttonholes.
i made it to fencing by a decent time. we did melees the entire time, which was lots of fun. a "hold the tavern" scenario and a bridge scenario, to teach us about different kinds of controlled melees. then we decided that we would play a horribly bastardized adaptation of quiddich, in honor of harry potter's birthday. two teams, one "golden snitch" at the end of the room, two bludgers who tried to kill everyone and weren't on either team. you had to go through three circles, in order, before you could try for the golden snitch. if you got killed, you res'ed at the end of the room and started over. bludgers couldn't be killed, but if you got a valid kill on them, they had to leave you alone for two seconds. it worked pretty well with 5 on a team: 2 people who would try for the snitch (actually penny's gold scarf), two people trying to keep each of the seekers alive, and one person helping out and distracting bludgers where needed.
i got the snitch by waiting till most people had gone through the circles (and thus the bludgers were distracted and the rest of the teams were killing each other farther up the field), then just ran straight up the middle, popped the bludger who was acting as goalie and grabbed the scarf while he was killing people on the other team. it was great. :)
we went to bennigan's for dinner, and had bad service. some people got their food before i got a glass of water. feh. and i have a sore throat, so i needed water and didn't want to borrow anyone else's. they have a drink called a celtic creamsicle that i tried... sooo good. it's baileys and buttershots and kaluha (i think) and milkshake. i need to try the irish mudslide next time. jack showed up for dinner, although he'd missed practice... just a good guess on which restaurant we'd picked. he might be picking me up a case of lambic for pennsic. :) wheeeee.
need to do laundry tonight, blah. also i should clean up, because mom gets home on saturday. i hope the fact that it's her car again isn't going to screw up my schedule. :P fencing again tomorrow, vitha's on friday, evening shift at work on saturday. i hope i'm ready for my week off when it finally gets here.
my nose is running. i don't like this.
