Aug. 3rd, 2002 04:50 pmit just stormed, in a very big way. SO NEAT. it thundered first, big booms, and then started raining. by that point, the thunder was loud enough that a car alarm chirped at the end of every boom. heehee. then it got really windy, and started hailing, and the power went out. one of the customers had to hold the doors closed, the wind was that strong. we all stood around for a while, since the registers had gone down with the power, of course. i was grinning like a maniac the entire time. eventually i locked one of the doors so there was less the wind could blow open. i also discovered that we have a book on blackwork down by the patterns. i'm really tempted to buy it - it has tons of examples and tells you how to create your own patterns as well.
eventually the rain died down and mary ellen closed the store and sent everyone except herself and charity home, since they had no idea when the power would come back up. it's back up now (obviously), and if she needs me she'll call. if not, i just got my shift reduced from 7 hours to two. :) also i discovered that despite still being sick, getting 10 hours of sleep instead of 5 makes a world of difference.
the streets were green when i drove home, from all the leaves and other bits of tree that were blown all over them. there was a fire truck down the street from my house trying to get a tree off the power lines. there are drifts of hail everywhere.
dad suggested that we grill dinner if it stopped raining. joel said we could just do it inside. ... dad says, "on what?" and joel realizes the extent of a power outage. he suggested we go out and see a movie. i was going to do some of my pleating, but instead i finally got all my clean clothes put away. go me.
and now i'm going to check livejournal. :) the only thing i don't like about the northwest is that we almost never get this kind of storm. oregon rain isn't loud and emphatic enough.
