Oct. 30th, 2005 01:34 amstark went to bed hours ago. so why am i still up? because i got my computer infected with a virus, and i need to clean it up and make sure it didn't infect the whole network before i go to bed. since it's actually a virus and not just spyware, adaware and spybot don't help - it looks like the virus reinstalls whatever they remove. so i'm running symantec's virus scanner, very slowly. in case you're curious, it looks like i got the psguard/smitfraud trojan something or other. symantec mentions psguard in both Trojan.Desktophijack.C and Trojan.Alemod, so i'm not sure exactly what i have.
argh. 75 gigs of stuff should not take that long to scan.
update: trojan.alemod, dialer.dialplatform, and trojan.byteverify. it looks like the only way to uninstall is to run an antivirus program in safe mode. unfortunately, i don't have one installed and the norton cd has disappeared.
